Today’s Composer of the Day is Kamran Ince.
(b. 1960)
Born in Montana, he moved to Turkey when he was six. He has won the Prix de Rome, among other notable awards.
He teaches at the University of Memphis. He also co-founded the Center for Advanced Research in Music at Istanbul Technical University.
His music is really cool. It’s been described as post-minimalist. Although, I think the label does his music an injustice. The music rhythmically rocks-out, sometimes. It stays put, just kind of undulating, sometimes. It’s sort of tonal, but non-functional, sometimes. It’s a little avant-garde, sometimes. And a little jazzy, sort of, sometimes. But it’s always well done and tight.
His picture is really fun to look at, but I don't know if he's a Socialist.
You should listen to his music.
