I’ll bet Joshua Kosman is just tickled by Michael Tilson Thomas’ deliciously alliterative name, because every time the opportunity arises his prose becomes chock full of wily word play.

Does the dating of 9/11 on the certificate have some sort of special meaning?
Yeah, it means it was made on the 11th day of the 9th month during an arbitrary calendar that some religious dude came up with centuries ago, and for some reason that I cannot fathom is still in use today.
Why? Did you have something else in mind?
